Last day to vote in the Smash Ballot!

Today, October 3rd, is the last day that the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot will be open. That means that you have less than 24 hours to cast your vote for your desired fighter. Characters like Mewtwo, Lucas, and Roy were added as DLC due to their fan demand even before the Ballot was put into action.

Earlier this year, Nintendo announced that they would permit fans to vote for the next DLC fighter in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. This can be done on their official website. The Ballot will show Nintendo which characters are in the highest demand to join the roster. Obviously, the characters chosen will have to be reasonable, as well as originating from a video game, so that means people suggesting Shrek and John Cena will be out of luck this time around, no matter how many votes those suggestions get.

For the most part, everyone who wanted to vote already submitted their pick long ago, but the Ballot is still open for anyone who is making a last-minute decision.

Possible characters that could win include Shovel Knight, King K. Rool, and Wolf, among others. Check out my discussion on the matter on my new podcast, Smash Talk!

But anyway, who will you/did you vote for? Sound off in the comments!

ST-001 – Smash Ballot Rumors

Welcome to the first episode of Smash Talk! Since Super Smash Bros. is one of the bigger Nintendo titles that is getting updates (along with an enormous fan base) we decided to give it its own show. From now on, any Smash news will be discussed on this show, instead of on the Nintendo Teens Podcast.

For now, the sole host will be me, Tommy Savoia. Eventually I plan on getting a new co-host but for the time being I hope you guys can tolerate me talking to myself.

On this show, my non-existent co-host and I will talk about Smash fighters, stages, techniques, and any new DLC that comes up. Today, the subject is the biggest rumors regarding the Smash Ballot and my personal pick. So go ahead and tune into the Talk!

Nintendo Announces the New 3DS for the US

Nintendo has finally announced that the New 3DS will indeed be coming to the US. People have clamored for the smaller version of Nintendo’s advanced 3DS for quite a while now. The system itself will launch in the form of two bundles, one being an Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer bundle.

The Animal Crossing bundle will feature the white system with Happy Home Designer, as well as two cover plates and an amiibo card. It will cost $219.99 at retail and be released on September 25.

The Animal Crossing bundle will share its release day with the separate 3DS NFC Reader. The NFC Reader will allow those who own a regular 3DS and 2DS to be able to scan amiibo. It will retail for $19.99.

On October 23, Nintendo also plans to release a New 3DS XL “Hyrule Edition” system as a Gamestop exclusive. It is colored gold and features the Hyrulian Crest on the cover. The system will cost $199.99 at retail and launches a week after The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes.

The New 3DS is a more powerful version of the 3DS which features better 3D tracking as well as built-in NFC support. The smaller model can use changeable face plates, while the larger version does not.

On a side note, new themed Wii Remote Plus controllers will be released alongside Super Mario Maker for Wii U on September 11, featuring Bowser and Toad. A Yoshi Wii Remote Plus will come when Yoshi’s Wooly World launches on October 16. These remotes will accompany the already available Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach Wii Remote Plus controllers.

Are you excited for the release of these new consoles and accessories? Let us know in the comments!

Pokken Tournament Announced for Wii U

Many were excited when the arcade fighting game Pokken Tournament, was announced. Previously, it was speculated that it may get a full console release on Nintendo’s Wii U. And now, that suspicion has been confirmed.

At this year’s Pokemon World Championships, in Boston, Nintendo announced the official Wii U release of Pokken Tournament. It can be expected worldwide in Spring 2016.

Pokken Tournament boasts many fighters taken from the popular RPG, including Pikachu, Charizard, Machamp, Suicune, Gardevior, Weavile, Gengar, Lucario, and the soon to arrive Blaziken. Nintendo also announced a new fighter, Pikachu Libre. This makes it likely that more fighters will be announced as the Wii U release gets closer.

According to the European version, Pokken is rumored to include Amiibo support, but this remains unconfirmed.

Pokken Tournament is an arcade fighting game featuring Pokemon fighting in the style of Tekken games. It is developed by Bandai Namco.

Are you ready to fight ’em all?

New Nintendo 3DS XL Getting a Monster Hunter X Version in Japan

Capcom has just recently announced a Monster Hunter X Limited Edition New Nintendo 3DS XL. So far, it is only known to be released in Japan, which is unfortunate for all of us here in the west.

It differs from the first Monster Hunter New Nintendo 3DS XL in the fact that it is red with a more detailed symbol (the logo and four monsters) on the front as opposed to a blue and grey console with a simpler symbol.

The console is to be released alongside the game it represents: Monster Hunter X. A game bundle, titled “Monster Hunter X Special pack”, will also release. It will cost 26,000 yen plus tax.

Added on to that, for a limited time, two Nintendo 3DS Menu Themes will be available when the game releases.

One is a lighthearted theme with Felynes:

The other one is more serious with the game’s four central monsters:

Monster Hunter X, the limited edition Monster Hunter X New Nintendo 3DS XL, as well as the regular sized New Nintendo 3DS’s shown in the pictures above (white), are all exclusive to Japan as of now. Reggie Fils-Aime did state before that a North American release for the regular sized New Nintendo 3DS may happen, though. C’mon, who doesn’t want faceplates?

Monster Hunter X and the Monster Hunter X New 3DS XL bundle will release in Japan on November 28, 2015.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata Passed Away on July 11

Satoru Iwata, the President of Nintendo since 2002, programmer, and gaming icon has passed away on July 11, 2015 at the young age of 55. No one could have predicted it, and it was a shock to everyone.

Nintendo released an official statement, saying, “Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth”.

The growth can be traced back a few years ago, when Mr. Iwata first announced that he was battling it. It was the reason he was absent from last year’s E3 presentation.

Mr. Iwata, who started as a programmer for Hal Laboratory in the 1980’s, became director of the company back in 2000, and not too long after that, became the President of Nintendo in 2002.

Mr. Iwata was known in the company, and all over the gaming industry, for encouraging unique and creative ideas in games. He once stated that, “If we continue down the same path as we have in the past, people may become tired of gaming.” He believed that new ideas were the only way to keep gaming alive. Iwata also reminded players that, “Above all, video games are meant to be just one thing: Fun for everyone.”

I, for one, would not want Nintendo to stray from that path. R.I.P, Iwata-san, and thank you for the great memories.
